COmmunity
reach
Relate Community Reach is an extension of Relate Church focused on engaging with our local neighbourhoods. Our heart is to bring renewal and resources to the communities in which we’re planted. We’re here to serve our city and our church family well.
In 2009, we asked ourselves this question: If our church were to disappear tomorrow, would the community notice? It led to a conversation, asking how we could help, with the mayor and then the Surrey school board. It didn’t take long for areas of need in our community to be identified. We began to serve in local prisons, adopt schools in our neighbourhood, and create programs to support at-risk youth.
Over the last decade we have seen this dream develop, fuelled by growing partnerships with local schools and non-profit organizations doing good work. Our Community Reach initiatives involve all kinds of people who find purpose in making a tangible difference. We’re engaged in our local communities in Surrey, mobilizing volunteers to foster relationships that place value on people.
RELATE CHRISTMAS PRoject
For over a decade, we have partnered with 4 schools (which we call our Adopted Schools) in Surrey to help bring the wonder and joy of Christmas to young students and their families. We do this with one goal in mind: to come alongside our community and help make the holiday season a little lighter and brighter. The Relate Christmas Project, in partnership with the Surrey School board and other community organizations, is proud to provide Christmas food hampers, and gift over 2100 presents to our adopted school students. We do this to ease the burden of families facing food insecurity, financial hardship, and housing instability, knowing that Christmastime can often bring added pressure to many households.
Our goal is to raise $64,500+ to provide:
2,100+ Christmas gifts for students at our four adopted schools, at approximately $25 per child.
120 food hampers for families experiencing food insecurity, at approximately $100 per family.
Hundreds of volunteers will help shop, organize, wrap, prepare, and deliver.
Let’s spread the joy of Christmas together this season! Your partnership with our Christmas initiatives can help make a tremendous impact on individual lives, and our community broadly. We appreciate any time, resources or finances you can contribute towards our project.
