  • Summer at Relate

    Wednesday, June 22, 2011

Sunshine in Vancouver! Is there anything better? Summer is oh-so-welcome here, and as the weather warms up and our beautiful city radiates warmth we are heading into an exciting season as Relate Church. This summer we'll hear from many pastors and leaders at Relate in each weekend service. Many voices, many unique stories and perspectives - with ONE message: BUILDING FORWARD. It's about building lives, families and church. Building relationships, and building a future that's totally dependent on God. It's about creating something together that's bigger than ourselves.  We hope you'll come on this journey with us - purpose to make church a priority this summer and let's make it a season of growth!

  • Wildfire | Building Forward - Foundations

    Tuesday, June 07, 2011

Someone once jokingly told me "just get them through high school alive!" in regards to being involved in Youth ministry. I had a little chuckle and admittedly there have been weeks where that line has popped into my mind as more of a reality than a joke, but a sad reality in our world is that the potential of the youth in our world is underrated. Instead of empowering them to be world changers now, many people often just hope they will get through high school without doing too much damage so that they can become "productive" members of our society.

Anyone in attendance of last weeks Wildfire - Building Forward - Foundations event would be hard-pressed to maintain that view. Here at Wildfire Youth we believe in the God potential of every youth - the potential to make an impact in their world today and to be an influence in their schools, their families, and their communities. As leaders, when we learned about the Building Forward campaign we weren't in the least worried about whether or not we would be able to get our youth involved because they have shown time and time again that they are committed to building the church to continue what God's doing in this city. All we needed to do was effectively tell them what was going on, which is why we organized this night.

The event kicked off with a few games that saw many of our youth struggling to complete seemingly simply tasks in front of a room full of their friends - an embarrassing necessity at any youth event! After spending some powerful time in worship, our youth were challenged by a powerful message from Pastor John, who reenforced their incredible potential not only for the future but also for today. After learning the details of the campaign and exactly how they would be involved, our youth stepped up in a big way and made giving commitments to the future of their church, extending their vision to the future generations to follow.

Personally, I've said to myself from the beginning of this campaign that I wasn't going to be surprised when our youth became involved because as I said, they are committed and passionate young people. I have to admit, however, a small degree of surprise at the size of some of our youth's giving commitments - commitments that challenge me to ask myself yet again "what can I sacrifice to build my church?". It was humbling to see how few youth currently had jobs, but how many were planning on picking up some sort of work in order to be involved in the campaign.

Never tell me that my job is just to "just get them through high school alive", and never describe our youth as only "the future" - last week's event stands as ample evidence that these young people are not only the future, but stand as integral parts of our church TODAY.

  • Building Forward Leadership Dinner

    Wednesday, June 01, 2011

The Leadership Building Forward Dinner was a resounding success.  What a special evening!  It feels so good to see the entire leadership of our church united.  Who can stop a group of people all believing and moving in the same direction?  Not only was the vision made clear but our leaderships desire to financially support the expansion was declared.    Wow,  this is a realty,  we have raised a phenomenal amount of money as an initial stake in the ground already to make this a realty.  We are moving full steam ahead and are eagerly awaiting the biggest celebration event of our churches history.  We are all truly a blessed people

  • SOAP Bible Plan + Prayer

    Tuesday, April 05, 2011

We anticipate God to move like never before this April. As a church we are fasting, praying, and reading throught the book of John together. We encourage and challenge you to join with us! Let us know what you're learning each day by joining the conversation on our FACEBOOK PAGE or by tweeting on Twitter using the hashtage #RELATESOAP.

    DAILY BIBLE + PRAYER TIME:

We are reading one chapter of the Book of John daily, beginning on April 3. The reading plan is as follows:

    April 3 John 1 April 4 John 2 April 5  John 3 April 6 John 4 April 7 John 5 April 8 John 6
    April 9 John 7 April 10 John 8 April 11 John 9 April 12 John 10 April 13 John 11 April 14 John 12
    April 16 John 14 April 17 John 15 April 18 John 16 April 19 John 17 April 20 John 18 April 21 April 19
    April 22 John 20 April 23 John 21

One great way to make daily Bible reading + meditation a daily practice is to use the SOAP method:

    Scripture (Read the Bible Passage)

Observation (Write down what this scripture says to you)

Application ( Write down how it applies to your life)

Prayer (Spend time talking to God and listening to what He has to say to you)

    FASTING:

We'd also encourage you to consider fasting for these 21 days.  You may choose to fast food, junk food, social media, television... Ask God to show you.  Fasting is the practise of putting God before other natural hungers.  It doesn't change God, but it confirms and strengthens our heart towards Him.

Mt 6:33 "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you."

Mt 5:6 "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled."

We'd love to know what you're learning, how you're growing... And let us know if you have any questions!
