Celebration Event a Great Success!
Monday, June 13, 2011Wow, what an incredible weekend. The Celebration Event, held on Saturday and Sunday, turned out to be a stunning, entertaining and very FUN party with our church family. Someone once jokingly told me "just get them through high school alive!" in regards to being involved in Youth ministry. I had a little chuckle and admittedly there have been weeks where that line has popped into my mind as more of a reality than a joke, but a sad reality in our world is that the potential of the youth in our world is underrated. Instead of empowering them to be world changers now, many people often just hope they will get through high school without doing too much damage so that they can become "productive" members of our society.
Anyone in attendance of last weeks Wildfire - Building Forward - Foundations event would be hard-pressed to maintain that view. Here at Wildfire Youth we believe in the God potential of every youth - the potential to make an impact in their world today and to be an influence in their schools, their families, and their communities. As leaders, when we learned about the Building Forward campaign we weren't in the least worried about whether or not we would be able to get our youth involved because they have shown time and time again that they are committed to building the church to continue what God's doing in this city. All we needed to do was effectively tell them what was going on, which is why we organized this night.
The event kicked off with a few games that saw many of our youth struggling to complete seemingly simply tasks in front of a room full of their friends - an embarrassing necessity at any youth event! After spending some powerful time in worship, our youth were challenged by a powerful message from Pastor John, who reenforced their incredible potential not only for the future but also for today. After learning the details of the campaign and exactly how they would be involved, our youth stepped up in a big way and made giving commitments to the future of their church, extending their vision to the future generations to follow.
Personally, I've said to myself from the beginning of this campaign that I wasn't going to be surprised when our youth became involved because as I said, they are committed and passionate young people. I have to admit, however, a small degree of surprise at the size of some of our youth's giving commitments - commitments that challenge me to ask myself yet again "what can I sacrifice to build my church?". It was humbling to see how few youth currently had jobs, but how many were planning on picking up some sort of work in order to be involved in the campaign.
Never tell me that my job is just to "just get them through high school alive", and never describe our youth as only "the future" - last week's event stands as ample evidence that these young people are not only the future, but stand as integral parts of our church TODAY.

Thursday, June 02, 2011RELATE CHURCH CELEBRATION EVENT….A Celebration of church family!
By now you should have received an invitation to our all church celebration events being held at the Surrey Campus on either Saturday, June 11th or Sunday, June 12th from 6:30pm to 9:00pm. Remember, these events will replace all our weekend services in order to make it possible for everyone to attend. Please choose an evening best suited for you. A team of volunteers have been formed to call every household to confirm reservations and to be sure that every family knows their children are invited to the Gianormous Life Kid’s Party! Nursery will be provided for your little ones so you can rest and know they are in good hands as you enjoy the evening. Hundreds of church family volunteers, headed up by Troy Hibbs, our Celebration Event leader, have made this evening possible and hopefully you’ve been able to participate as a volunteer as well.
Emily Stewart is overseeing our large team of hosts who are excited to serve the Building Forward campaign. There will be no charge for these history making evenings we have planned in your honour. We are inviting the whole church to attend. The cost of the dinner and our kid’s party will be paid through the commitments that we make and will not be taken from our general budget. OUR HOPE IS THAT OUR WHOLE RELATE CHURCH FAMILY WILL BE IN ATTENDANCE AT THIS DINNER WHETHER OR NOT YOU ARE ABLE TO MAKE A GIVING COMMITMENT.
All the details for the events are above. Our children will be having barbequed hot dogs + hamburgers while the adults will be treated to a sit down dinner.
COMMITMENT CARDS TO BE GIVEN OUT AT THE BANQUET
The evening is a time of celebration for our church family to gather and to cast vision for the future. A multi-media presentation produced by Rod Doell will be shown at the banquet reviewing our past history, highlighting our present and, projecting our plans for the future. THE PURPOSE OF THE BANQUET IS CELEBRATION.
Commitment cards will be given out at the events. Please prayerfully prepare to complete the card at the event or you may take your card home. If you take your card home, please return the card on our Commitment Weekend, June 18th and June 19th. All commitments are confidential and private. Jeanette Connell, our Follow Up Leader and her team are the only ones who will know the amount of your commitments.
We are believing our Celebration Events combined will make this the largest church family dinner ever held in the history of Relate Church! Make your reservations by either responding to the RSVP, rsvp@relatechurch.ca (be sure to let us know the ages of your children attending), or call the church office at 604.599.8989 ext #0 or when our hospitality team calls you to confirm.

Building Forward Leadership Dinner
Wednesday, June 01, 2011The Leadership Building Forward Dinner was a resounding success. What a special evening! It feels so good to see the entire leadership of our church united. Who can stop a group of people all believing and moving in the same direction? Not only was the vision made clear but our leaderships desire to financially support the expansion was declared. Wow, this is a realty, we have raised a phenomenal amount of money as an initial stake in the ground already to make this a realty. We are moving full steam ahead and are eagerly awaiting the biggest celebration event of our churches history. We are all truly a blessed people

My Stewardship Story | Nick Bennett

Five years ago when I walked through the doors of Relate Church GOD grabbed a hold of me and life has never been the same since. I find peace that I never knew was possible. My wife Lynda, daughter Kira and I feel that Relate Church is home! We are proud to be a part of an amazing church family. Our lives continue to grow and I want my daughter who is now 12 years old to have the same for her family. I was compelled to get involved in the Building Forward Campaign so that I can be a part of leaving a legacy for my daughter and her children. They will need a place to worship that is centered in the Bible and supports families.
25 years ago many people sacrificed in order for Relate Church (Victory Christian Centre) to start. Many people continue to sacrifice to stand in support of this amazing church, now it is our time. Our time to sacrifice, to get behind the Building Forward Project with our efforts and prayers. I am honoured to be a part of this project – Relate Church had seeded into my life and my families – now it is my time to seed for the future.

Building Forward 24 Hour Prayer This Friday + Saturday

As we launch our Building Forward Campaign, one of the most important things we can do collectively is pray. Relate Church Surrey is hosting 24 hours of Continuous Prayer in the House this Friday and Saturday and we'd encourage you to join us.
You may commit to pray for one hour at any time between 5:00 pm on Friday and 5:00 pm on Saturday. Come when you're able - we'd love to see every church family member participate!
You will be led through five stations for personal prayer - Communion, Salvation, Healing, Building and Nations. You'll receive a commemorative prayer journal as well and we expect this will be an incredible time of focused corporate and personal prayer.

As we move forward with our Building Forward Church Building Expansion Campaign, we have a few important events planned for you to note. Please plan to join us!
24 Hour Prayer | May 6 + 7
Friday, May 6 at 6:00 pm until Saturday, May 7 at 6:00 pm.
Join us and pray for an hour within these 24 hours of prayer. We welcome you to bring key scriptures that you find significant and want to agree together with as we pray over Relate Church and her future.
Celebration Event | June 11 + 12
We are planning the most exciting church event this weekend as we celebrate what God has done and what lies ahead for the church. All church family are invited for very special event. You will receive an invitation and information very soon as all the details come together. On this weekend Commitment Cards will be presented for you to take home and return the next weekend.Commitment Weekend | June 18 + 19
This weekend we will all have an opportunity to bring a Cornerstone Offering, as well as our Commitment Cards as we commit to give towards the Building Expansion project for the next 3 years.
