Relate Church - Sunday, January 01, 2012

Here we go Church… we are launching into 2012. Today is a fresh slate, a new day, a new year and a new opportunity to give God our first and our best.

Together we are stronger, together we are better.

Today's Bible Reading is Daniel 10.

(Reading the chapters before it will help a lot too.)
Daniel has just completed a 21 day fast and he has a vision:

I, Daniel, was the only one who saw the vision; those who were with me did not see it, but such terror overwhelmed them that they fled and hid themselves. So I was left alone, gazing at this great vision; I had no strength left, my face turned deathly pale and I was helpless. Then I heard him speaking, and as I listened to him, I fell into a deep sleep, my face to the ground.
A hand touched me and set me trembling on my hands and knees. He said, “Daniel, you who are highly esteemed, consider carefully the words I am about to speak to you, and stand up, for I have now been sent to you.” And when he said this to me, I stood up trembling.
Then he continued, “Do not be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them. But the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted me twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, because I was detained there with the king of Persia. Now I have come to explain to you what will happen to your people in the future, for the vision concerns a time yet to come.”
While he was saying this to me, I bowed with my face toward the ground and was speechless. Then one who looked like a man touched my lips, and I opened my mouth and began to speak. I said to the one standing before me, “I am overcome with anguish because of the vision, my lord, and I feel very weak. How can I, your servant, talk with you, my lord? My strength is gone and I can hardly breathe.”
Again the one who looked like a man touched me and gave me strength. “Do not be afraid, you who are highly esteemed,” he said. “Peace! Be strong now; be strong.”
When he spoke to me, I was strengthened and said, “Speak, my lord, since you have given me strength.”

Daniel, who lived in a very real physical world, has a divine interaction with the supernatural world in this moment. In Daniel 10 Heaven comes to earth in a series of amazing visions and Daniel receives the last of four prophetic visions from God.
What is so astounding to me here is the reality that God is waiting to speak to us, to show us things, to lead us forward and show us His pathways into His magnificent eternal ways. He has connected eternity and our ‘now’ and there is so much we can do now to prepare us for our journey toward eternity. But not just our eternity – the eternity of the multitudes whose very lives hang in the balance.
Daniel gave his one life completely, and laid it before God as an instrument to be used for the purposes of God. He wasn’t distracted with the menial, unimportant distractions that so often get us off track from the really BIG stuff that God wants to do with us and through us. He was focused, determined and completely sold-out.
Daniel wasn’t just concerned about the here-and-now of his one life… he chose to give his life to carry forth a magnificent vision that is still unfolding in these modern and still perilous days (as they were in Daniels day). He chose God-conviction over compromise, humility over honour, a fast over a feast.
As we launch forward in these 21 days of prayer and fasting, I know that Heaven will speak and move on behalf of heartfelt prayer and sacrifice.
I expect…

  • Salvations in numbers that will astound us
  • Healings in bodies, hearts and families
  • Breakthrough in strongholds in our city, our nation and the world
  • Supernatural growth and favour as we have never experienced before

There may be a battle brewing, but our God is greater, our God is stronger and collectively as we pray and fast we will see the salvation of our God.

We'd love to hear:

  • What did you get from today's Bible reading?
  • What is God saying to you about 2012?

I loved this chapter to start the year and to start our 21 day fast. I have a holy expectancy over this year!
